　のぎへん（禾）は穀物を表し（稲、穂、稔）、つくり（兌）は薄くはぎ取るさまを表す（脱、説、鋭）。
　つまり、汗水ながして手に入れたものを、べりっ、べりべりっと１枚ずつはぎ取るのが「税」である。
